Descripition:

Following the diagonal line, the peak in the medium shot, the waterfall falling from the sky to the other side of the river and the mountains and rocks in the close-up shot form a type of composition called the “one-sided” composition mainly used by a master of the Southern Song Dynasty named Ma Yuan. The close-up, medium and long shots are thus created. The changing air and light colors create three layered spaces. The far-off mountains and the sunrise glow are integrated into one. The river of the upper stream seems to flow from the sky and create a mysterious atmosphere. The water downstream and the sky merge in one color, like a mirror. Wu Deng-yi reorganizes nature by shaping four spaces (upper, bottom, front and back). A particular effect he creates on the mountain surface is a contrast between the visual proportion and the viewing distance. This is done by enlarging the details of Taihu stones and depicting them on faraway mountains. He embeds his subjective emotions and skillfully places them in his Shanshui painting.
